A fee for service?

Well as it is termed, a fee for service is a ‘small’ payment for the services provided to you. This could be applied to any corner of any profession. From a waiter to the doctor you are consulting, either of them requires a fee for service, for the waiter it’s in form of a tip. For a doctor it’s a fee. However, keeping on track here the fees for service is related to doctors and how they are paid for the services they offer.

For any procedure a doctor performs on you it is required that you keep that cash ready for him. Some examples of fees charges include consultation, tests, and office visit and surgery procedure. Every minute of a doctor is paid so you see that’s how they turn out to be the ever flourishing rich filths of our society.

Because a number of people have shown criticism on this use of fees for service, they feel that it’s a waste and an unjustifiable expense incurred by the public. It is said that the fees asked by doctors has been scrutinized in many situations since different fields tend to charge a higher fees. Such as skin laser surgery, specialist consultation, general physicians etc. Not only has this fees structure for doctors been criticized the overall health care model has been under debate.

There is another side to this criticism where reforms say instead of paying to these professional individuals which is only making healthcare impossibly expensive. They feel that reform advocates should be paid the fees for service reform. They feel that medical professionals should be according to their quality and efficiency in providing medical care.

For example, Jane was feeling this cramping sensation in her tummy for 3 days. She visited her general physician and asked for his consultation. He referred her to perform a number of laboratory test which on arrival claimed that she needed to remove her appendix because it was causing the abdominal pain. She was all prepped for the surgery and once all was over, she realized that a big lump sum amount had just been credited from her account for these individual procedures.

One should be careful while they search for their doctors and choose an appropriate one. They should analyze all these costs and forecast in the future of how much of these fees charges will be required every time a visit is paid to the doctor. It is also wise that individuals check the actual fees charged on the specific consultation they are planning to take. It greatly varies according to the type and purpose you are planning. Be aware that doctors are no angels or individuals who work towards your well-being. They too are in business of providing service and being paid for their services they offer to you.
